MAVIN Album Review…Who Will Take D’banj’s Place?

Since Don Jazzy announced the rebranded Mohits, now Mavin Records, the social networks have been buzzing nonstop. On Twitter; Mavin, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Dr Sid and D'Prince have all constantly trended and are the hot topics that everyone is talking about. We all know about the differences between D'Banj and Don Jazzy that lead to the birth of Mavin records, so I'm not gonna talk about that.
First off, let me say that 'Don Baba Jay' as he is fondly called is a proper businessperson. He sure knows his onions and used this whole media buzz about the Mohits break up to come up with a Label that is super cool. Tiwa Savage's entry to Mavin is the best decision Don Jazzy could have taken. She is the female Pop Diva of the moment that I am sure has a lot to offer, this is one decision Don Jazzy will not regret.
Who Will Take D'Banj's Place? Who Will Bring In The Big Bucks? Wande? Dr Sid? D'Prince?
I am not gonna include Tiwa here because she's kinda in her own class and has her own appeal. Before I answer that question, let's review the entire songs in the Solar Plexus Album. Please this review is my personal opinion and I am scoring each artiste out of a possible 100%. I must also add that I'm not giving anyone 100% percent not because they don't deserve it (these guys are our stars), I do this because no song can be said to be 100%, there's always something that's wanting, plus I'm a critic (yeah I said it, lol). When I was in the university, 70% meant an automatic A, while 60-69% was a B…and so on… Therefore, here is my review of the songs.
I'm A Mavin by Mavin:
I'm not gonna say much about this song since its kinda like an anthem. However, I think that it's a cool song and all the artistes did well on the track. The song is an effizzy song that talks about Mavin. Wande Coal stood out in the song and I'm probably sure that a video will be shot for this song. Download: http://tinyurl.com/cwdrq8g

Omaga by Tiwa Savage:

I must say that the woman on this song, Naija's pop diva is a good singer. But on this song, Tiwa took a different style (shows her versatility tough). This is not the Tiwa we know from 'Kele Kele Love', 'Love me' or even 'Without My Heart' featuring Don Jazzy. She sounds extremely Naijaish (Which is not a bad thing, but we do not know her with the style). However, I like the song but I think I'd take the former Tiwa with the sultry voice that could make a guy go…(add what you like) over this Tiwa. Anyway, I must give her kudos because the delivery of the song was very much on point, too much Yoruba though. Overall, Tiwa gets 60% for this song. Download: http://tinyurl.com/897zwry
Yolo by Dr. Sid:
Oh! I like this song a lot, it's so on point. Great sound, its already sticking to my head. Dr Sid has continued to give us hits from 'Over the Moon', 'Something About You', 'Bamijo' and now… 'Yolo'. This song will surely get you on your feet. Dr Sid Kudos, you get 70%. Download: http://tinyurl.com/7doblk6
Take Banana by D'Prince:

Omoba also did good on this song, though the song sounds like most Naija songs and I kinda found it difficult to make sense of the song, so I'll just bump to the beat thank you. Omoba gets 50%. Download: http://tinyurl.com/6srj2h3
See Me Ri by Wande Coal:
Now this is the Wande coal we all used to know, not the 'Private Trips' wande, nice song, even though he was taking a hit at his haters in the song, me still thinks it's a cool song. Is it just me or is there a Timaya vibe somewhere in that song? I give this song 60% Download: http://tinyurl.com/6qg489y
CPR by Dr. Sid:
Yay! Finally, a techno laced song. Dr Sid you too much, thank you. I like this song, it makes a lot of sense and the content is on point. If you've got a good sound system, bump this and you'd think you're at a club in the London. I wanna say 70% but I'll say 67%. Good one. Download: http://tinyurl.com/79qq4l9
Forever by Wande Coal:

Ok this song is a bit similar to CPR by Dr. sid, but I like it too. Lyrics are cool, vocals are ok too, but I must point out that the auto tune was a bit over the top. Dunno how the people that are used to Wande's other songs will take this, but me? I like. 63% Download:http://tinyurl.com/csyu4gb
Why You Over There by D'Prince:
I am not feeling this song o! All I hear is "Why you over there", "all I wanna see is a yansh" and "Kondo" (If you don't know what yansh and kondo means…better not to know). This song is a typical Naija song that doesn't make sense lyrically. I sha kinda liked the delivery of the verse…just a weeny bit. 45% Download: http://tinyurl.com/6oekme2
Chocolate by Dr. Sid:
Nice song, cool…not the party jam type you know. I must say that I like the harmony in the song. Not much to say here so… 60%. Download: http://tinyurl.com/d5l95b6
Pretty Girls by Wande Coal:
Don Baba Jay really did well on all these songs o! This is a nice song, but really, its forgettable. I'm not gonna wake up tomorrow and remember this song (I'm gonna remember Yolo by Dr. Sid though). Good song nonetheless. 60% Download: http://tinyurl.com/bw9knpe
Amarachi By D'prince:
The title alone and knowing what Don Jazzy can do to an igbo song got me anticipating to press play. Oh! The beat is cray (that's how they say it abi?)…so on point. Chai! I miss D'banj sha, he would have totally killed this song… think 'Igwe by D'banj'. Anyways D"prince did well, though I couldn't hear clearly some of what he was saying but this is nice and will definitely be loved by the dudes from the South East. 67% Download: http://tinyurl.com/cnudovy
Conclusion:
After constantly repeating these songs, head don dey pain me. Nevertheless, I have to give props to the Mavin crew, in all, she's a nice album (lol), I enjoyed listening to this. After listening, I think it's between Dr Sid and Wande coal. But Judging by the songs, Dr Sid is my pick, though Wande Coal kinda has a larger fanbase. What do you guys think?
